David Cameron\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s legacy will be felt all too acutely by those workers earning a low wage or in insecure work who will be shut out from his housing promise Unite, said today (Wednesday October 7).<\/p>\n

Commenting on David Cameron\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s address to the Conservative Party conference, Unite believes the speech, would \u00e2\u20ac\u015boffer little reassurance to those bracing themselves for the impact of Tory cuts.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And his plans for home ownership were \u00e2\u20ac\u015bas achievable as a trip to the moon.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bDavid Cameron\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s legacy will be all too visible to those on low wages or who are bracing themselves for the next swing of the Conservative cuts\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 axe, like the three million low-waged families about to be stripped of more than a \u00c2\u01411,000-a-year thanks to his government.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bHis stubborn adherence to the bankrupt political philosophy of austerity with the slowest economic recovery in history; missing their own deficit reduction targets; three successive months of rising unemployment; and the longest fall in living standards since the 1870s.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Even deeper cuts <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bBut he and George Osborne are determined to press on with even deeper cuts that will destroy our public services.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

McCluskey said that it was not what people wanted to hear.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He continued, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bPeople wanted to hear today that the government would at last do something to create decent work in this country and not sit on the sidelines as millions slide into insecurity and our manufacturing industry is left to rot.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bTo them, these promised new homes to buy are as achievable as a trip to the moon.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIf this prime minister does leave a lasting legacy, it will be that people are `on their own\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bAs for the housing pledge, this fools nobody. We need to build at least 240,000 additional homes annually to keep up with the new households that are formed \u00e2\u20ac\u201c last year only 140,000 were built.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWhat is needed is genuinely affordable homes for all \u00e2\u20ac\u201c closing the door to council house building is a grievous mistake by the prime minister, but one that ordinary people will continue to pay dearly for in the years to come,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 McCluskey concluded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
