{"id":6672,"date":"2015-11-06T15:50:26","date_gmt":"2015-11-06T15:50:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=6672"},"modified":"2015-11-06T15:50:26","modified_gmt":"2015-11-06T15:50:26","slug":"out-of-the-blue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=6672","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u0098Out of the blue\u00e2\u20ac\u2122"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite will meet with construction workers at the Air Product renewable energy plant, TV2, in the Tees Valley today (November 6) after yesterday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s shock job loss announcement.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nUnite, which represents construction workers working on the site, will meet with Air Product management next week to find out what can be done to save the 700 highly skilled construction jobs now at risk.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nUnite regional officer for construction Steve Cason described the news that Air Products is to halt all construction on its second energy-from-waste development plant at North Tees Billington, as \u00e2\u20ac\u015bcoming out of the blue\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis is a bitter blow for the project\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 700 strong, highly-skilled workforce and crushing for the local economy, coming so soon after the closure of nearby SSI steelworks in Redcar,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe future of 700 highly-skilled construction workers now hangs in the balance. Unite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first priority is to get on site and speak to our members about this shock announcement.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe urge Air Products not to turn its back on its 700 strong workforce,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Cason added. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bDon\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t throw away the excellent industrial relations that have been established from day one of this build.
