{"id":7432,"date":"2016-01-25T17:04:43","date_gmt":"2016-01-25T17:04:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=7432"},"modified":"2016-01-25T17:04:43","modified_gmt":"2016-01-25T17:04:43","slug":"wake-up-call-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=7432","title":{"rendered":"Wake-up call"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Crane operators at the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s largest mobile crane hire firm, Ainscough, have delivered a wake-up call to management, after voting overwhelmingly for strike action in a pay dispute.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nUnite is urging Ainscough to improve its pay offer to avert potential serious disruption on construction sites and major projects across the UK, after the decisive rejection of the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s pitiful two-year deal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe Unite members rejected the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s revised two-year pay offer of 2.5 per cent and 2.75 per cent, amid warnings that it failed to recognise the workforce\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s contribution to last year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00c2\u014114 million profits.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe union\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 500 crane operator and support staff members, who operate lifting services on UK construction projects including, on the M1 and M6 motorway upgrades and the new Forth Road Bridge, voted by 90 per cent for strike action, on an 83 per cent turnout. Over 90 per cent voted for action short of a strike.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nA series of escalating strikes are planned across the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 30 UK-wide depots, starting on February 1 and running until March 23. A programme of overtime bans will run from January 30 to March 20.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe strength of this strike ballot result should serve as a wake-up call to management,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Unite national officer for construction Bernard McAulay. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur members are highly skilled crane operatives working on some of the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s premier construction sites in challenging conditions.
