{"id":8280,"date":"2016-04-04T16:57:16","date_gmt":"2016-04-04T15:57:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=8280"},"modified":"2016-04-05T12:13:10","modified_gmt":"2016-04-05T11:13:10","slug":"deliver-our-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=8280","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u0098Deliver our plan\u00e2\u20ac\u2122"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Steel unions emerged from today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s (April 4) meeting at TUC headquarters in London with specific steps the government can take now to save the steel industry.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was attended by one hundred steelworkers from across the UK to formulate a plan for their industry following Tata Steel\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s surprise decision to divest its UK assets.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The plan includes demanding that the government take immediate action to guarantee production of Tata Steel\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s UK operations so that customers are not lost following Tata Steel\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s announcement.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unions have also called on the government to work to ensure the integrity of the business \u00e2\u20ac\u201c SSI has shown that a blast-surface only operation in the UK is not sustainable. Allowing Tata or other investors to cherry-pick assets will put steelmaking at risk.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Finally, unions outlined concrete steps that the government can take within European rules to support the business in its journey towards self-sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The plants, unions emphasised, are entirely viable but they require investment, which is estimated to be \u00c2\u01411.5bn over 10 years.
