In yet another assault on NHS services, St. George\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Hospital must save an astounding \u00c2\u014191m within two years.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The southwest London hospital \u00e2\u20ac\u201c which provides vital services to a wide community, including maternity and accident and emergency, as well more specialised care, such as trauma, cancer care and neurology \u00e2\u20ac\u201c must shave \u00c2\u014145.2m from its budget by the end of this fiscal year. An additional \u00c2\u014145.8m will be cut the following year.<\/p>\n

Although a St. George\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Hospital spokesperson said the cuts would involve neither job losses nor measures that would have an \u00e2\u20ac\u015badverse impact on patients,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 the planned cuts for this year will be \u00c2\u014110.2m from women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and children\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s services, \u00c2\u014111.1m from medicine and cardiovascular, and \u00c2\u014110m from surgery, neuroscience and theatres.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIf these vast amounts of cuts won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t lead to job losses, then what will they lead to?\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c this is a question that needs to be asked,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Unite health officer Rose Keeping.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite will seek to fight for jobs as much as possible. But if there are to be cuts in personnel, then there is no doubt this will adversely impact patient care,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Keeping added.<\/p>\n

Keeping noted that even when cuts do not involve outright job losses, they usually involve a mix of measures that can harm patients and staff, including downgrading pay grades and reconfiguring services.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t just happening at St. George\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s. The cuts are happening everywhere in southwest London and the rest England,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 she said.<\/p>\n
