{"id":8530,"date":"2016-04-27T17:23:20","date_gmt":"2016-04-27T16:23:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=8530"},"modified":"2016-04-27T17:23:20","modified_gmt":"2016-04-27T16:23:20","slug":"21st-century-fleet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=8530","title":{"rendered":"21st century fleet"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Aberdeen-based transport company FirstGroup has struck a deal with Falkirk based bus company Alexander Dennis (ADL) and Wrightbus of Northern Ireland to build a new fleet of state of the art buses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The deal is worth a total of \u00c2\u014170m. The majority of this will be built by ADL.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The order will underpin existing jobs in Falkirk where Unite has almost 700 members out of a total workforce of 1000. Unite, Britain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s biggest union, also has 600 members at the Wrightbus plant in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The buses \u00e2\u20ac\u201c which will serve routes in Sheffield, Doncaster, Bristol and Cornwall \u00e2\u20ac\u201c will be fitted with Wi-Fi and USB charging points in order to charge phones and tablets while on the move.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite Scottish secretary Pat Rafferty said: &#8220;Unite welcomes today&#8217;s announcement that Alexander Dennis will build a new fleet of buses for FirstGroup.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Good news<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis deal is good news for jobs and good news for Scottish manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe new fleet will bring together quality workmanship with modern technology.
