{"id":8727,"date":"2016-05-16T15:39:17","date_gmt":"2016-05-16T14:39:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=8727"},"modified":"2016-05-16T15:39:17","modified_gmt":"2016-05-16T14:39:17","slug":"reckless-and-short-sighted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=8727","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u0098Reckless and short sighted\u00e2\u20ac\u2122"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>HSBC will axe 840 jobs in IT departments in a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098reckless\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 drive to offshore jobs to India, China and Poland said Unite, today (May 16).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The announcement of 840 job cuts is the first wave of IT job losses, which are part of the 8,000 planned UK-wide cuts announced in June 2015.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Since then thousands of HSBC staff have been cruelly kept in the dark about their futures.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u015bHSBC\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s decision to axe so many IT jobs is as ruthless as it is reckless,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Unite national officer for finance, Dominic Hook.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The bank expects the majority of impacted staff to leave its\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 employment by the end of the year. Many will be expected to pass on their knowledge to their successors based in \u00e2\u20ac\u0098low cost\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 countries in a &#8216;cynical race to the bottom.\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bFor almost a year staff have been left in the dark about their futures only to be told that before being shown the door they&#8217;re expected to train someone in India or China who will do their job for less money. It&#8217;s a deeply cynical move by a bank which wants to be an \u00e2\u20ac\u0098Employer of Choice\u00e2\u20ac\u2122,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Hook added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A disproportionate number of the cuts will fall on Sheffield, where 595 jobs are expected to go. Other impacted sites include IT operations in Birmingham, Leeds and London.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOffshoring IT jobs to so-called \u00e2\u20ac\u0098low cost economies\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 is extremely short sighted.
