HSBC employees in Birmingham, Leeds and London are also facing the axe.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The cut backs are the first big wave of a plan to shrink the bank\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 48,000 strong UK workforce by 8,000 people, which was announced last <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/business\/news\/hsbc-to-cut-up-to-25000-jobs-worldwide-including-8000-in-the-uk-10306563.html\">June<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Adding insult to injury the workers are expected to train their successors before they lose their jobs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A HSBC IT Unite member, who wished to remain anonymous, said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve had this looming over us for a year now. What makes it worse is that we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been told that we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re expected to train people in India and China to do our jobs for less money. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a complete insult.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0098Saving money\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThere\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s no way that this won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t impact customers. If your bank card stops working at 4 pm on a Friday and the IT support needed to fix the problem is in China, 12 or 14 hours ahead, there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s simply no way the bank will be able to respond in time. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s all about saving money.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite national officer Dominic Hook said the job losses and the way they have been handled are, \u00e2\u20ac\u015ba deeply cynical move by a bank which wants to be an \u00e2\u20ac\u0098Employer of Choice.\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bHSBC\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s decision to axe so many IT jobs is as ruthless as it is reckless.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bFor almost a year staff have been left in the dark about their futures only to be told that before being shown the door they&#8217;re expected to train someone in India or China who will do their job for less money,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Hook.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite HSBC\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s claims that moving the jobs abroad form part of a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098large and ongoing IT investment to build a global world-class IT infrastructure\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, Hook said the relocations will affect customer service at the bank.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOffshoring IT jobs to so-called \u00e2\u20ac\u0098low cost economies\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 is extremely short sighted.
