With less than a week left until the UK makes a historic decision on the day of the EU referendum on June 23, dozens of trade unions, including Unite, have stood together to make the case for Remain.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In a letter first published in the Mirror<\/em> on Tuesday (June 14), trade union leaders of the UK’s largest unions, representing 6m people in total, set out reasons why voting Remain would be most beneficial for working people.<\/p>\n

As trade union leaders, we stand up for 6 million working people every day.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Right now, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re worried. Worried that the UK will vote to leave the European Union – and that will be a disaster for working people.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The EU isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t perfect. But there are three big reasons to vote Remain.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

First: decent jobs. Working people\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s wages haven\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t recovered since the 2007 crash. They simply can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t afford another hit to their pay packets.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s what leaving the EU would mean. It would be harder to sell what Britain makes abroad. Big companies located here might move their operations elsewhere.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

That means we would lose jobs. And the knock-on effect would make us all worse off.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Britain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s proud manufacturing industries would be worst hit. And that would spell the end of many well-paid, skilled jobs around the country.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And with the UK worse off, the NHS will suffer too. There will be less money to fund nurses, midwives and hospitals.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Then there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s our protections at work – fought for by unions, underpinned by the EU.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At least 20 days paid leave. Paid time off for medical appointments if you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re pregnant. Time off to look after a child who\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ill. Protection for temps & agency workers. Equal pay for women and part-timers.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

All of these are at risk of being watered down or even scrapped if we leave the EU.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Working people know they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re vital safeguards against bad bosses – but Leave campaigners call them ‘red tape’, and want them binned.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t risk it.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And then, there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the future. This huge decision is about our kids. We all want them to have a decent start in life.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Staying part of Europe is about that. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s about the good jobs and opportunities that being part of the EU gives them.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For these reasons, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be voting Remain in the EU referendum. We urge you to do the same.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Vote for jobs. Vote for protections at work. And vote for a better future for your family. Vote Remain on June 23.<\/p>\n
