{"id":9378,"date":"2016-07-26T16:22:51","date_gmt":"2016-07-26T15:22:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=9378"},"modified":"2016-07-27T16:26:09","modified_gmt":"2016-07-27T15:26:09","slug":"leeds-bus-strike-suspended","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=9378","title":{"rendered":"Leeds bus strike suspended"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Leeds bus workers, who have suspended their all-out strike due to have started today (July 26), will be voting on a new improved two-year pay deal over the next fortnight.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite said that the ballot result of the 1,000 bus workers, based at the Bramley and Hunslet Park depots in Leeds, would be known on Thursday, August 11.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The indefinite bus strike, due to have started in Leeds\u00c2\u00a0tomorrow, has been suspended after the company\u00c2\u00a0First\u00c2\u00a0 West\u00c2\u00a0Yorkshire came forward with a much\u00c2\u00a0improved two-year pay offer after protracted talks on Friday (July 22),&#8221; said Unite regional officer Phil Bown.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our members will be balloted on this offer over the next fortnight and the result will be known on Thursday, August 11. In the meantime, the strike has been suspended and our members will\u00c2\u00a0be working normally.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We appreciate that the threat of strike action has caused concern to the travelling public in Leeds, but Unite believes that the new offer on the table offers an excellent opportunity to resolve this dispute,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The one remaining issue that has to be resolved is the dismissal of the Unite branch secretary, who was one of the architects of the new deal. Unite is awaiting a date for an appeal hearing with one of the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s senior directors.
