Theresa May\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new head of policy has drawn up plans to cut workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 rights, and lower wages for employees in poor areas, despite the Prime Minister\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s inaugural pledge<\/a> to help working people rather than the \u00e2\u20ac\u015bprivileged few.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n

MP George Freeman, appointed head of May\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s policy board last week, believes that employees in new firms should not be entitled to employment rights that include paid leave, maternity pay and the minimum wage.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Freeman has also advocated for large companies to pay just 10 percent in corporation tax, as well as proposing that the minimum wage and public sector pay should be \u00e2\u20ac\u015bregionalised\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 to reflect income disparities.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The plans were laid out in a 2013 policy paper authored by Freeman, previously a junior health minister, and Tory MP Kwasi Kwarteng.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the paper, entitled The Innovative Economy Industrial Policy for the 21st<\/sup> Century<\/a>, Freeman said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe should exempt new firms for their first three years from employers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 national insurance, business rates, corporation tax and employment legislation.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n

As well as calling for green energy subsidies to be abolished and advocated moving skilled public sector workers into the private sector, Freeman said the national minimum wage harmed the economy.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bBy maintaining uniform national minimum wages and wage rates in the public sector, the government creates real imbalances in regional labour markets,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he wrote.<\/p>\n

After his promotion last week, Freeman crowed that he will \u00e2\u20ac\u015bhelp shape the new government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s programme\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 and direct \u00e2\u20ac\u015bthe deep economic and social reforms we need to make\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/p>\n

Unite political officer Kate Purcell said Freeman\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s appointment exposed the lie behind the Prime Minister\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s promise to turn Britain into \u00e2\u20ac\u015ba country that works for everyone\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 by fighting \u00e2\u20ac\u015bagainst the burning injustices\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 of class, poverty, race and health.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIn Theresa May\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first speech, she made a direct appeal to ordinary working class families and talked about the struggles that people face with job insecurity and low pay,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Purcell said. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bDon\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be fooled by her crocodile tears, let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s judge her by her actions.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bShe has shifted her Cabinet to the right and appointed a Head of Policy who advocates cuttings wages and rights at work. This is a government firmly on the side of the likes of Philip Green<\/a> and Mike Ashley<\/a>, putting privilege and profit before people.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n
