{"id":9516,"date":"2016-08-12T14:48:07","date_gmt":"2016-08-12T13:48:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=9516"},"modified":"2016-08-12T14:48:07","modified_gmt":"2016-08-12T13:48:07","slug":"raking-it-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=9516","title":{"rendered":"Raking it in"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Fat cat bosses at Britain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s biggest companies enjoyed a 10 percent pay rise last year, raking in an average of \u00c2\u01415.5m \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 129 times more than the typical salaries of their employees.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to the High Pay Centre\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s (HPC) <a href=\"http:\/\/highpaycentre.org\/files\/The_State_of_Pay_2015.pdf\">annual survey<\/a> of earnings on FTSE 100 companies, released this week, a small all-male clique are pushing their own massive pay packets up while wages for everyone else fall behind.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 2015 wages for the average worker increased by just 2 percent, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/employmentandlabourmarket\/peopleinwork\/earningsandworkinghours\/bulletins\/annualsurveyofhoursandearnings\/2015provisionalresults\">figures<\/a> from the Office of National Statistics show. The small rise came after wages plummeted after the 2008 financial crisis.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Over the same period FTSE 100 fat cats have gorged on huge pay rises. In 2010 the average pay for top bosses was \u00c2\u01414.1m, increasing to just under \u00c2\u01415m in 2014. Last year that number soared to \u00c2\u01415.48m.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThere is apparently no end yet in sight to the rise and rise of FTSE 100 CEO pay packages. In spite of the occasional flurry from more active shareholders, boards continue to award ever larger amounts of pay to their most senior executives,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said HPC director, Stefan Stern.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stern said he welcomed government proposals to publish ratios that compare the wage of a business\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 CEO and its average worker and give ordinary employees a say over executive pay.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bBusinesses could save themselves a lot of grief, and do something to restore their reputations, if they listened to workers first before awarding these bumper pay packages,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Stern said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe question the outside world keeps asking is \u00e2\u20ac\u0098How much?\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. How much better to try and answer that question internally first with concerned yet supportive employees?\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The highest paid CEO was WPP\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Sir Martin Sorrell, who saw his pay increase from \u00c2\u014143m in 2014 to \u00c2\u014170.4m in 2015. Tony Pidgley was the second most highly paid CEO, earning \u00c2\u014123m.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Other fat cats who made the top ten included BP\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Bob Dudley at \u00c2\u014113m and Horta Osorio at Lloyds Group, which is partly owned by the tax payer, who earned \u00c2\u01418.8m.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>&#8216;Obscene&#8217; pay disparities<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>In fact ordinary workers in the finance and banking sector suffer pay disparities that are as imbalanced as other FTSE 100 industries, said Unite national officer for finance Rob McGregor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe differences in pay between normal workers and top executives in the finance industry are just as obscene,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The HPC report also highlighted the glaring gender disparities found at the top of industry.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bBig pay is a boy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s club,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 the HPC said. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bNo women made it into the top ten in either of the last two years.
