{"id":9692,"date":"2016-09-05T17:26:16","date_gmt":"2016-09-05T16:26:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=9692"},"modified":"2016-09-05T17:26:16","modified_gmt":"2016-09-05T16:26:16","slug":"spectre-of-privatisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=9692","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u0098Spectre of privatisation\u00e2\u20ac\u2122"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite officials say they are \u00e2\u20ac\u0098extremely disappointed\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 that an un-named council source is raising the spectre of privatisation for Edinburgh City Council\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s refuse services.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite was responding to reports that council officials are to look at ending the agreed \u00e2\u20ac\u0098task and finish\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 method of working employed by council refuse staff.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the media today (September 5), an un-named council source is quoted as saying that \u00e2\u20ac\u0098if the bin crews continue to work like this, then the argument for privatisation will become overwhelming\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite depute Scottish secretary Mary Alexander explained that the \u00e2\u20ac\u0098task and finish\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 method of working was brought in by the council in 1989 \u00e2\u20ac\u015bas an incentive to crews to get the job done.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIf the council wants to re-negotiate that, then we will be ready to listen to whatever proposals they have,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 she said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bBut we strongly dispute that our members are not doing the tasks assigned to them by managers. And we are extremely disappointed that un-named council sources are raising the spectre of privatisation in this way.
