{"id":9700,"date":"2016-09-06T17:14:24","date_gmt":"2016-09-06T16:14:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=9700"},"modified":"2016-09-06T17:14:24","modified_gmt":"2016-09-06T16:14:24","slug":"pension-robbery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=9700","title":{"rendered":"Pension \u00e2\u20ac\u0098robbery\u00e2\u20ac\u2122"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Members of Unite working for the Post Office have voted strongly for industrial action over plans by bosses to close the final salary pension scheme despite it being \u00c2\u0141100m in surplus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Of those taking part in the ballot 64.3 per cent supported the call for strike action with a huge 78 per cent supporting industrial action short of a strike. Around 3,500 staff are affected by the proposed pension scheme closure which comes at the same time as the Post Office seeks to make up to 1,700 people redundant by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite calculates that under the defined contribution scheme from next April, based on the vagaries of the stock market, staff will lose about 30 per cent of their retirement income going forward \u00e2\u20ac\u201c thousands of pounds a year.
