This follows the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s decision to halve the plant\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s proposed production of its dragon engine and a significant reduction in the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s planned investment in the site.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bToday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s news is deeply concerning and must raise serious questions over Ford\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s long-term commitment to Bridgend,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Unite Wales secretary Andy Richards. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe halving of production of the new dragon engine combined with pre-planned reductions in other volumes on site places the plant in a very dangerous situation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bStrategic decisions such as these are not made overnight,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he added. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt is Unite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s view that this is all part of a long-term restructuring plan across Ford\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s global operations in which its Bridgend operations are to be slowly dismantled.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite Wales has been raising these concerns with Welsh government ministers for a number of years and they have been very supportive in trying to secure a long-term future for Ford Bridgend,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Richards noted. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bIndeed they backed production of the dragon engine with a significant financial support package.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bToday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s decision will have been made by its board in Detroit and that is where urgent questions must be raised as to the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s long-term commitment to its UK operations and its loyal and world class workforce here\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unite Wales has today (September 6) expressed its grave concerns for the future of Ford\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Bridgend engine plant.
