{"id":9739,"date":"2016-09-09T16:51:21","date_gmt":"2016-09-09T15:51:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=9739"},"modified":"2016-09-09T16:51:21","modified_gmt":"2016-09-09T15:51:21","slug":"keep-health-visitor-promises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=9739","title":{"rendered":"Keep health visitor promises"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Scotland\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s leading health visitors\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 union says the Scottish government has to keep its promises on fair funding and extra staff if it wants the named person scheme to be a success.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Community Practitioners and Health Visitors Association (CPHVA) \u00e2\u20ac\u201c part of Unite \u00e2\u20ac\u201c was commenting after deputy first minister John Swinney announced that there would be a year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s delay for consultation before the scheme would be brought in.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Under the plans, the vast majority of children in Scotland under school age will have a health visitor as their named person.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bHealth visitors play a vital role in promoting the wellbeing of children and families,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Unite lead professional officer for health in Scotland Gavin Fergie. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe have engaged with the named person scheme \u00e2\u20ac\u201c but promises made about funding and increasing the number of health visitors practising in Scotland have not been delivered.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bPresently the service is faced with annual cuts at a time is it being asked to deliver more,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he added. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWithout full and protected funding we do not believe that enough new health visitors will be recruited and retained \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and that will be vital if this legislation is to work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur health visitors are uniquely placed to help deliver the objective of reducing health inequalities for all children in Scotland but to do this but they need more support from both the Scottish government and health boards.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe delay announced by John Swinney means that the Scottish Government and health boards have the opportunity to listen to and negotiate with the profession and we urge them to do so.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, the Scottish Government announced that it was to invest \u00c2\u014140m in recruiting 500 health visitor posts by 2017-18.
