{"id":9798,"date":"2016-09-13T12:22:11","date_gmt":"2016-09-13T11:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=9798"},"modified":"2016-09-15T13:33:32","modified_gmt":"2016-09-15T12:33:32","slug":"blacklisting-still-going-on-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=9798","title":{"rendered":"Blacklisting still going on"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Unite assistant general secretary Gail Cartmail\u00c2\u00a0led calls at the TUC conference today (September 13) for tougher laws and a full public inquiry into blacklisting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Addressing conference in support of motion 22 on surveillance and blacklisting Gail Cartmail warned that it would be na\u0102\u017bve to think that the construction industry had been \u00e2\u20ac\u0098cleansed\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 of the shameful and destructive practice of blacklisting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Backing calls for a TUC day of action on blacklisting Gail Cartmail said,\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite, along with sister unions and the Blacklist Support Group have campaigned for better and tougher laws on blacklisting winning the support of politicians in Westminster, Holyrood, the Welsh Assembly and councils the length and breadth of the UK.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis year finally conspirators were dragged to the High Court of Justice and hundreds of trade union members won financial compensation,&#8221; she added. &#8220;The contractors say they are sorry but to this day they still shy away from the term \u00e2\u20ac\u0098blacklisting\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and still the law intended to protect workers is too weak and woefully inadequate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe demand better law and a full public inquiry into blacklisting.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Warning against complacency Gail Cartmail added,\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u015bSince the 2009 expose, Unite fought the gang of seven contractors who put \u00c2\u014125 million aside to usurp the national agreement with BESNA.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bDuring that campaign we returned to work a blacklisted worker.
