Unite hosts Bristol jobs and training day
Alex Flynn, Tuesday, November 8th, 2016

Unite is teaming up with employers and the employment charity, Tomorrow’s People in the South West to hold its first ever jobs and training open day in Bristol tomorrow (November 9).

The event which is open to everyone runs from 10am – 3pm at Unite’s South West regional offices, Tony Benn House, Victoria Street, Bristol BS1 6AY. Employers from a wide range of sectors with current vacancies will be at the event including: Bristol Waste, Brandon Trust, Curo, First Bus, Hinkley Point C, St Monica’s Trust and the University Hospital Bristol NHS Trust.

Also on offer will be practical help for anyone who has become detached from the world of work, as well as computer taster sessions and training packages to help people back into a job. People attending the event will also be able to access financial advice and a number of support services including the Bristol Credit Union who will be offering free membership on the day.

“Anyone who has ever had to face the threat of redundancy or indeed lost their job will understand the overwhelming pressure felt when the sudden reality of how you will pay the bills or buy food for the family sinks in,” said Unite South West regional secretary Peter Hughes.

“The Unite South West jobs and open day will assist anyone in that position or people wanting support in looking for a new job, a change of career, or those seeking training and advice.

“It’s great to have employers and the expertise of an employment charity like Tomorrow’s People on board for the event. Its programmes ensure that individuals develop the skills, self-belief and resilience needed to get and keep a job,” he added.

“Whether you are currently out of work or looking for training opportunities, I’d urge you to come along and find out what support and advice Unite and its partners can offer you.”
