UPS parcel strike off

Strikes scheduled for Wednesday (December 7) and Friday (December 9) by UPS parcel workers at the delivery firm’s Camden depot have been called off Unite announced today (December 5).

Over 140 workers had been readying themselves to go on strike over alleged bullying, harassment and racism, but called their action off after their union Unite secured ‘significant’ commitments from UPS during talks.

The agreement, which covers workers at the biggest UPS depot in Europe, includes a no forced overtime clause, as well as guarantees by the company to work with Unite to tackle racism and commitments to leadership training.

“The significant commitments Unite has secured through talks with UPS means we are able to call this week’s strike action off,” said Unite regional officer Onay Kasab.

“Thanks to the resolve of Unite members, UPS workers at Camden will not be forced into doing overtime when they do not want to,” he added. “Importantly the company has also agreed to work with Unite to tackle racism and bullying and create a work environment based on dignity and respect.

“We trust the positive steps taken by management will be the first of many on the road to meeting the concerns of the hardworking workforce at UPS Camden.”
