A two-year pay deal for about 7,400 employees at car giant Nissan was hailed by Unite today (December 13), as ‘excellent news’ that rewards a dedicated workforce.

The workforce accepted the deal by a large majority of 68 per cent, which starts on January 1, 2017, for the staff at NMUK in Sunderland and the Nissan Technical Centre Europe (NTCE) at Cranfield, Bedfordshire.

This will mean 2.75 per cent plus a £750 lump sum for year one and in year two, 2.75 per cent, plus an increase in maternity paid leave from 18 to 26 weeks, from January 1, 2017.

“This is excellent news for this hardworking and dedicated workforce which has been in the vanguard of the renaissance in the UK car industry in recent years,” said Unite national officer for the automotive industries Tony Murphy.

“It is a good deal that both rewards staff and secures future employment at what is a challenging time ahead for the British car industry – we are particularly pleased about the increase in maternity pay.

“Unite wishes to continue its constructive partnership with Nissan to produce vehicles of the highest quality and to ensure that our members share in the company’s success.”
