Offer on the table

An offer aimed at settling the long-running dispute on pay, pensions and job security at Fujitsu in Manchester will be put to Unite’s 300 members.

The workers are set to vote on the offer in the next couple of weeks and follows talks between of Unite, the country’s largest union, and the Fujitsu management yesterday (January 19).

In the meantime, Unite has suspended all industrial action. The 24-hour strike due to have taken place today (Friday January 20) is not now happening.

“Following talks yesterday with the management, Unite is putting an offer to settle this long-running dispute to our members. This will be put to the members in the next couple of weeks,” said Unite regional officer Sharon Hutchinson.

“We will not be releasing details of this offer until our members have had the opportunity to consider and vote on it. In the meantime, all industrial action is suspended.”

The background to the dispute was last year’s announcement that Fujitsu wants to cut 1,800 UK jobs – over 18 per cent of its UK workforce.
