The dispute at Cummins Generator Technologies in Stamford has moved closer to a resolution after workers have accepted ‘in principle’ a revised offer, Unite said today (January 26).

Unite, which represents more than 260 workers, said it was waiting to see how the company honoured and implemented the deal in the days and weeks ahead.

The dispute has centred on the closure of the Barnack Road site in October this year with the possible loss of up to 300 jobs. The company has indicated 150 people could be employed at a centre of excellence in Ryhall Road in the town, following the Barnack Road closure.

“Our members have held an informal ballot on the revised offer after the company came back to the table, following an overwhelming 93 per cent vote for strike action earlier this month,” said Unite regional officer Scott Lennon.

“The deal is confidential and private to the members, but they have accepted the revised package in principle as long as the company honours what has been agreed.

“We haven’t withdrawn the possibility of industrial action. It will remain on the back burner as long as the company complies with and implements the new revised offer in good faith.”

It is understood that Cummins currently employs 500 people in Stamford.
