Fair wages for all ages

Unite young members met with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn (pictured below) after his Unite policy conference address on Tuesday (July 3) to throw his support behind a new campaign for young people.

Under the Tory government, young people under the age of 25 face blatant age discrimination under minimum wage laws. They can be doing the exact same job as a colleague aged 25 or over but get paid less — in some cases much less. For those 18 to 20, it is legal to pay these workers as little ÂŁ5.90 an hour; for those under 18, the minimum wage drops to ÂŁ4.20 an hour.

Unite young members are fighting this with their Fair Wages for All Ages campaign. Corbyn pledged his support — Labour aims to introduce an across-the-board minimum wage of ÂŁ10 an hour for all workers, regardless of age, by 2020.
