Happy Birthday NHS from Unite
To the tune of Stevie Wonder’s Happy Birthday and lit by a sparkling laser display, Unite delegates gave greetings and thanks to the NHS, saluting Unite’s NHS members. Unite NHS members (main picture) went onto the stage with Len McCluskey and executive council chair, Tony Woodhouse.
Unite general secretary Len McCluskey welcomed Unite rep and biomedical scientist, Ian Evans. Len said, “I am so proud to be here today, so proud of our NHS, so proud of our Unite members who work for the NHS.
“Nye Bevan said we have to fight for the NHS and we will fight and fight and fight again to keep it our NHS.”
Ian Evans thanked Unite delegates and said, “I’m proud to work for the NHS and proud to be an NHS Unite member.”
A large birthday cake stole the show – and was taken later to the nearby Royal Sussex Hospital – where Ian works – to share out among Unite NHS workers.
