Unite is welcoming Show Racism the Red Card to the union’s headquarters on Wednesday, September 5 to launch Wear Red Day 2018, which will be attended by former and current footballers.

The launch event will take place at 5pm at Unite’s headquarters in London. Also in attendance will be Riva Casley and Michelle Young who both currently play for Millwall Lionesses.

The launch event will help build support for Wear Red Day 2018 on Friday, October 19, 2018. The event is aimed at getting people to show their opposition to racism by wearing something red to work and donating ÂŁ1 to charity.

“Wear Red Day (WRD) is an opportunity for supporters of Show Racism the Red Card to make a stand against racism and support our charity’s work, ” said Show Racism the Red Card chief executive Ged Grebby (pictured). “We are delighted to have our launch at Unite the Union’s headquarters and have several of our patrons in attendance. The trade union movement will be asking all of its members to show solidarity with our anti-racism education campaign.”

Unite assistant general secretary Howard Beckett added, “Racism remains all too prevalent in society and it is essential those attitudes are challenged in the workplace and beyond.

“Unite is delighted to support the launch of Wear Red Day, which allows people throughout society to demonstrate their opposition to racism,” he added.

“The work that Show Racism the Red card undertakes where they go directly into schools and use education to challenge racist views at an early age is unique and absolutely exemplary.”
