Cheque firm dispute ends

Strike action called off after revised pay offer agreed
Barckley Sumner, Thursday, September 20th, 2018

Unite members at Communisis in Crewe have called off strike action after a new pay offer was accepted.

The workers, who produce cheques and cheque books, had initially voted for strike action, after rejecting an eight per cent pay increase spread over three years.

Strike action and an overtime ban which was originally scheduled for the end of August was postponed to allow further talks to progress.

The talks resulted in the company making an improved pay offer, with the workers being offered and accepting a pay increase of three per cent for each of the next three years.

“I am pleased that Communisis’ management were prepared to listen to members’ concerns and made an improved pay offer,” said Unite regional officer Darren Barton. “Their actions meant that strike action and any disruption to the company’s work was avoided.

“Unite hopes that these negotiations will bring in a new era of co-operation and that the relationship with the company can now be developed and strengthened.”
