Otis lift engineers strike off

Strike action by 400 lift engineers suspended as they vote on new pay offer
Shaun Noble, Monday, March 11th, 2019

About 400 lift engineers, employed by Otis Ltd, have suspended six weeks of strike action as they vote on a revised pay offer.

Unite announced today (March 11) that the six weeks of strike action due to have started on Wednesday (March 13) had been suspended, while members vote on a new pay offer.

The offer follows a meeting between Unite and Otis management last Friday (March 8). Members are being balloted on the revised deal from today and the ballot closes on Friday, March 22.

“I can confirm that the industrial action due to have started on Wednesday has been suspended while our members hold a consultative ballot on the revised offer,” said Unite national officer for engineering Linda McCulloch.

“The details of the package will remain under wraps while our members consider the new offer hammered out with the company after talks on Friday,” she added.

“Unite won’t be commenting further until the result of the ballot is known on March 22.”
The engineers had voted by 71 per cent for strike action and 88 per cent for industrial action short of a strike over the previous pay offer of 1.5 per cent for the year starting June 2018.
