NHS: lost forever?

Ten reasons the Tories can’t be trusted with the NHS
Rae Passfield, Friday, October 10th, 2014

1. They never wanted it to begin with

1 didnt want

When the 1949 labour government was constructing the NHS to give free and accessible healthcare to all, the conservatives vehemently voted against them.

2. And shirked all responsibility as soon as possible

2 shrug

In 2012 the Tories brought in the health and social care act that removed their duty to provide comprehensive healthcare to citizens.

3.  Waiting, waiting, waiting

3 waiting

Waiting times are at their highest in six years, with 3.2m people on waiting lists, while hip and knee operations have been rationed, forcing elderly people to pay up or go without.

4. Beds are literally disappearing

4 confused

NHS wards have inexplicably lost 23,000 overnight beds in the last four years…

5. Cancer treatment has been downgraded

5. what

Since they took power, the Tories have reduced spending on cancer and breached a waiting times target for the first time since its introduction in 2009. Meanwhile, 360,000 more women are overdue a cervical cancer screening, compared to three years ago.

6. Services are starved of cash

6 more

£20 billion has been cut from the NHS by the coalition, under the premise of “efficiency savings”. Underfunding means that services like GP’s are failing, with predictions that next year 50m people will be turned away from GP surgeries.

7. Jobs aren’t safe

7 screams

4,000 senior nurses have been axed under the Tories in a vicious bid to save money.

8. Standards are slipping

8 standards

Record numbers of people are using NHS A&E departments and the service is increasingly failing to meet their target of seeing patients within four hours.

9. Profit before patients

9 greed

In just three years ÂŁ7bn of new NHS contracts have been put out to private bidders, and this is set to rise to ÂŁ20bn in the next few years. Unsurprising though, when you consider 62 Tory MPs and 63 Tory Lords have links to private healthcare companies.

10. We will have to say goodbye to universal healthcare

10 goodbye

At this rate the NHS will buckle under the financial pressure and is predicted to run out of money by 2015/2016. Under the Tories, the NHS as we know it will be lost forever.
