MINI pay deal win

Unite secures 10 per cent pay deal for MINI workers
Alex Flynn, Monday, June 17th, 2019

Unite members making the iconic MINI at BMW’s Cowley plant in Oxford have overwhelmingly backed an inflation proofed three year pay deal worth a minimum of 10 per cent.

Over 81 per cent of those taking part in a pay ballot voted for the deal which sees pay rise by three per cent in 2019 in addition to a 0.5 per cent bonus.

In 2020 and 2021 workers will also receive a bonus of 0.5 per cent, as well as receiving an inflation proofed pay rise of 2.75 per cent, or the retail price index (RPI) rate of inflation if it’s higher.

Agency workers are also covered by the pay deal.

Commenting Unite regional officer for BMW Fred Hanna said, “This pay deal was the result of intensive pay negotiations between Unite and BMW and recognises the important role of the Cowley workforce within the German car giant.

“Not only is it inflation proofed, but agency workers at the Cowley site are also covered and will receive the same bonus payments that permanent employees get,” he added.

“Covering the next three years, the pay deal also gives workers who make the iconic MINI, certainty over their incomes and demonstrates the value of being a member of Unite and the collective bargaining that Unite members enjoy.”
