‘Defend our Royal Mail’ call

Unite’s Kate Osborne urges support of CWU Royal Mail members
Hajera Blagg, Monday, September 23rd, 2019

Unite delegate Kate Osborne seconded a motion in support of CWU Royal Mail members on Monday (September 23).

She explained how Unite organises managers and senior staff in the Royal Mail and how they too have seen threats to members’ job security and an environment that “has seen morale amongst our membership drop to an unprecedented low”.

“In 2017 we also made a similar pledge to the CWU as Royal Mail attacked pay and conditions in a continuing race to the bottom,” she added. “That future cannot be built on sand and the weak foundations of privatisation, deregulation and ever more insecure contracting and employment models.

“Conference, we support the fight against privatisation and will continue to support the campaign to defend our Royal Mail, Parcelforce and Post Office, returning them to where they belong in public ownership under a Labour government who are already committed to do it,” Osborne went on to say.

“We will stand shoulder to shoulder with the CWU in their fight for the future of this vital public service and the dedicated people who work for it,” she concluded. “Unite is proud to stand with the CWU and I ask conference to do the same.”

The motion was carried.
