Unite artist Jamie Caldwell pays tribute to NHS heroes
UniteLive, Thursday, April 9th, 2020Unite’s Jamie Caldwell has been creating a bit of happiness during the coronavirus lockdown by drawing cartoons of NHS heroes who have been nominated by their friends and family.Â

As well as being Unite’s regional community coordinator for Scotland, the 31-year-old is also an artist who specialises in cartoons.
Jamie, who has been drawing since school, said, “The idea began in January when I drew cartoons of the theatre staff and surgeon who performed my back surgery to say thank you.Â

“They were really pleased with the drawings, so when the coronavirus hit I thought I should do them for NHS heroes battling the outbreak.
“It’s just meant to bring a smile and a nice surprise for folk who’ve been nominated – it’s a difficult time and they’re doing their best for all of us.”
The best thing so far has been the heart-warming stories of the individuals who have been nominated, Jamie explained.Â

These include a theatre nurse who was nominated by her fiancé after their wedding was postponed and she began working directly with Covid19 patients in an intensive care unit.
Another drawing features a paramedic who is coming up to his fortieth year on the job.Â
