For a more equal and just nation
North Ayrshire and Arran MP, Katy Clark, is being backed by Unite in her bid to become deputy leader of the Labour Party in Scotland.
Unite announced its support on Wednesday (November 5) for Ms Clark and will be urging members to cast their vote for her in the deputy leadership ballot when it opens later this month.
Unite Scotland’s support comes after consultation with members’ representatives, drawn from across working and community Scotland.
“Katy Clark is well known to our members as a fighter for working people,” commented Unite Scottish secretary, Pat Rafferty.
“We believe that they see in Katy someone determined to work for a Scotland that is a more equal and just nation.”
This was important as, “Too many of our members and too many in Scotland’s communities feel abandoned by politics, believing that while politicians want their votes they do not want their views.
“Katy Clark is not one of those politicians. Our members can be confident that with Katy as deputy leader of the Labour Party in Scotland, they have someone who will fight for their jobs, decent homes and our kids’ futures.”
He added, “The tremendously tough task of winning back Labour for Scotland’s working people and their communities will be made easier with Katy Clark in the party’s leadership team.”
