Not without a fight

Residents of West Hendon estate (pictured) came out in full force at a demonstration on Wednesday (January 23) to challenge the sell-off of their homes by Barnet council to Barratt Homes.

The Tory council gave the property developer the land and millions of pounds to demolish the estate and build tower blocks of private housing.

Residents have 10 weeks before they will be forced to leave, after which they’ll be rehoused in non-secure tenancies, away from family, friends and support networks.

But they won’t give up without a fight – a Unite coordinated campaign hopes to repeat the success story of New Era.

“We know that it is only through collective action that we can force the government to make the necessary changes to planning and housing policy,” said resident and campaign member of Our West Hendon, Jasmin Parsons.
