‘We need to maintain sovereign capability’

Unite welcomed the recent news that defence-critical steel engineering firm Sheffield Forgemasters would be brought into the public hands after the MoD bought out the firm in a ÂŁ2.6m deal.

The deal secures hundreds of jobs and increases scope for the creation of new, highly-skilled and unionised jobs.

Unite assistant general secretary for manufacturing Steve Turner explains in an interview with Sheffield Live why this is such a welcome development both for jobs and for the UK’s wider national security.
