On his visit to Wales today (April 14) Unite general secretary, Len McCluskey met workers at the E-Cycle Centre in Tonypandy. E-Cycle centres were set up by the Labour Wales government after the Tories had closed down Remploy sites throughout the UK.
Worker Gary Clutterbuck (pictured) told Len, “I’ve worked for Remploy since 1980, when I was hit by an articulated lorry on my way to work. After the Remploy factories were shut, I was disgusted. I was made redundant but then when the Welsh government started the E-Cycle centre, I was given the opportunity to work again. There’s an old Chinese proverb – “Person who has everything by day, can lie happy at night.” So now I do.”
