Solid support

There was solid support for the London Underground stoppage today (July 9) among members of Unite, who were on strike in a dispute over the introduction of all-night Tube services from September.

Over 400 Unite members, working as electrical and maintenance technicians, linesmen and signallers on London’s tube network joined members from ASLEF, RMT and TSSA in the 24 hour strike which is set to draw to a close this evening.

“The blame for today’s disruption lies firmly at the door of London Underground management and the high handed way in which they have sought to railroad these changes through,” said Unite regional officer Hugh Roberts.

“Any reasonable employer wanting to introduce unsocial night shifts and the upheaval that brings to the work/life balance of workers would be engaging with workforce representatives in a constructive manner,” he added.

“Sadly that has not been the case with London Underground who have forced our members to take the last resort of strike action. We would urge London Underground to return to the negotiating table and address our members’ concerns over night tube running.”
