Amanda Campbell, Tuesday, September 15th, 2015

Jeremy Corbyn, newly elected Labour Party leader and lifelong trade union member addressed the TUC conference today (September 15).

To a rapturous, standing ovation Jeremy Corbyn spoke about celebrating the “values of solidarity, compassion, social justice, fighting for the underprivileged and of working for people at home and abroad.”

He spoke about the importance of trade union values – how essential and relevant they were to everyone and how “Those [are the] values I want restored to the heart of the Labour Party.”

Even though Labour has 30,000 new members the Party Jeremy Corbyn made it clear Labour had to “become more inclusive and open .”

Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said Jeremy Corbyn was received with the same “warmth” as he had experienced in his meetings around the country during his leadership campaign.

He said, “It was incredibly refreshing to have a Labour leader embrace trade unions, as opposed to the Prime Minister who used to call us the enemy within.”
