Happy birthday René!

Today is the 58th birthday of René González, pictured with his wife Olga. He is the only member of the Miami Five who has finished the full term of his harsh and unjust prison sentence.

The Miami Five, also known as the Cuban Five, were imprisoned by the US government after uncovering a terrorist plot against Cuba. They were given between 15 years and double life sentences.

While in prison, René was denied visits from his wife, and he lost his father and only brother. Now he is home in Cuba, he is fighting for the release of Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, and Fernando González, the other members of the Cuban Five.

Unite, which has been working with American trade unions the SEIU and USW, stands in solidarity with the Cuban Five, and we wish René González a happy birthday.
