‘Never ending’ jobs fight

Unite steelworkers’ fight goes on
Hajera Blagg, Monday, February 29th, 2016

UNITElive caught up with a delegation of steelworkers on their way to attend an opposition day debate on the future of steel tonight (February 29) in Parliament.

We spoke to Jason Bartlett (pictured, front right), a steelworker from Torstre Steelworks in Wales who has joined his Unite colleagues today to continue to put pressure on the government to take action to save the steel industry.

He voiced the frustrations of thousands of steelworkers and dozens of steel communities who face a bleak future if the government doesn’t step in to put the UK steel industry on a level playing field so that it can viably compete.

“Last year we were fighting for our pensions; this year we’re fighting for our jobs,” Bartlett said. “It just never seems to end.”

Tune into UNITElive tomorrow for the latest developments and more comments from our steelworkers.
