Stop the cruelty
Tomorrow (March 9) hundreds of thousands of people will protest at the Tories’ cruel benefit sanctions.
Â
Vulnerable people up and down the country are being punished for the â€crime’ of being victims of a failing economy.
Â
“Money can be cut for arriving late at the Jobcentre, missing an appointment to go to a funeral or even failing to apply for a job while waiting to start a new job,” said Liane Groves, Unite head of community.
Â
In 2013 David Clapson, a diabetic ex-soldier, died starving because he was penalised by the Jobcentre for missing a meeting.
Â
His body was found surrounded by CVs and his electricity had been cut off making his insulin unusable.
Â
“It is totally counterproductive and there can be no justification for this grotesque cruelty by the government. It can’t be allowed to go on,” added Liane.
Â
Help put an end to the Tories punishing regime by joining a protest tomorrow.
Â
There are 70 taking place outside job centres across the country and a march to the Department of Work and Pensions where a petition will be handed in by Mr Clapson’s sister Gill Thompson.
