Oil strike – latest

Oil workers at Wood Group, members of Unite and RMT, took their first day of strike action as part of the latest 48-hour stoppage today (August 4) in an ongoing dispute over a massive cut in pay and allowances of up to 30 per cent.

The latest two-day strike action follows a previous 24-hour stoppage last week after management has continued to refuse further talks.

“Today’s action went as well as it could go,” said Unite regional officer John Boland. “Workers are stationed in their designated areas on the platforms and will be sequestered there during tomorrow’s action.”

“We have had as yet no further indications of continued talks from management, which is extremely disappointing,” he added. “Next week we’re hoping to find a way to take this forward.”

Striking workers (pictured above) stood firm today, and held up signs showing how much they stand to lose in pay and allowances under management proposals.
