Pizza Factory jobs threat
The threat to 350 jobs at The Pizza Factory in Nottingham was branded â€a hammer blow’ for the workers and the local economy by Unite last night (August 17).
Unite is due to hold talks with the long-established East Midlands company, owned by food giant 2 Sisters, on Friday (August 19).
The union understands that the threat to between 300-350 production staff jobs has been caused by the loss of a vital Tesco contract to supply ready-made chilled pizzas. The total workforce is about 600.
“This is very bad news for the workers and their families, and a hammer blow for the wider Nottingham economy,” said Unite regional officer Andy Shaw.
“It is early days and details about the scale of the job losses remain unclear, as does a timeframe for any redundancies,” he added. “We expect a full briefing when we meet the management on Friday.
“Unite is committed to avoiding compulsory job losses and we will be actively exploring avenues such as redeployment and voluntary redundancy,” Shaw went on to say.
“The union will be giving all possible support to our members in the days and weeks ahead at what is a very traumatic and difficult time for them.”
Unite has more than 450 members at The Pizza Factory.
